The Turtle Gang

turtle010.gif

I have been around turtles for almost my whole life.  From the time I was little, we have owned everything from box turtles to baby red ears to snappers.  They are very interesting reptiles and each one has a distinct personality.

My turtles are very special reptiles.  I love them very much and I worry about them when they aren't feeling well.  They bring lots of joy and entertainment to my life.

My current bale of turtles includes 7 females, 6 of which are 3-toed box turtles and 1 is an eastern box turtle.  Their names are Sophie, Mable, Ivy, Heeman, Peewee, Peanut, and Jazz.  Heeman, Peewee, and Peanut are Sophie's daughters!  They were born just a few days after we got Sophie.  We had no idea she was pregnant!   I also recently adoped a male eastern box turtle and named him Logan.  I hope that one day he will be Jazz's boyfriend!

In the table below, I have indicated when the turtles were acquired, their ages, and  their current weights.

Meet My Turtles!!!!
sophie01.jpg

Sophie is mugging for the camera.  She is our oldest turtle.  She is very sweet and rather shy.

Here is Peanut.  She is one tough little cookie!  She is the only turtle I ever knew that could smell food a mile away!  When she's hungry she will bulldoze her way so she can be the first one to eat!

Here is Jazz.  She is the other escape artist.  She has a very healthy appetite and will eat anything.  Only this year has she has started to allow me to hand-feed her. This photo is of the typical eastern box turtle pose.  Note her outstretched rear leg.

Here is Heeman.  She is a maniac when it comes to chow time!  Her favorite activity is chasing another turtle when they have food in their mouth.   Shes likes to be held and hand-fed.
mable.jpg
This is Mable.  She is very shy.  Mable is known for picking a spot to lie in and not moving from it for a long time!

This is Ivy.  She can be very rambunctious and can be quite the little escape artist.  She thinks she is Jazz's twin!

Look at Sweet Peewee!  Once she gets moving its very hard to contain her!  When she wants something she will just go and get it!

Here's my recently adopted turtle, Logan.  He is an eastern box turtle.  One of his favorite activities is to climb on top of his house and dive head first into his pool of water.  His appetite grows with each passing day.
